Hey friends,
I wanted to give you a real update on where things are at because truthfully, the past couple of months have been a massive struggle.
I’ve been incredibly sick for most of May, June and July. The kind of sick that floors you. I was hoping it would pass quickly, but it turned into one of those slow grinds that knocks the wind out of you just as you think you’re getting back up. Back in May I had something that knocked me down for two weeks straight, and took me another three to get back to a decent place. It honestly felt like I had Captain Tripps from The Stand. Then after I recovered, another virus, another recovery, another virus, and this past week… the same fucking thing I had back in May came back for round two. And I’ve lost another week.
Between managing life, parenting, and the day job, writing had to take a back seat to just… surviving.
That said, I haven’t stopped thinking about the stories. Even when I couldn’t write, scenes from Miner’s Quest, EDGE Force 4, and some other projects on the backburner have been playing in my head like campfires on a cold night. Embers quietly burning, waiting for the spark to come back. I’ve jotted down ideas, bits of dialogue, a few outlines, and plans for what’s next.
Here’s where things stand:
- Miner’s Quest Book 2: Delayed slightly, but I’m hoping to dive back in over the next couple of weeks. I’m so happy with the first volume and the beta reader reaction so far, and I think book 2 is going to be just as good.
- EDGE Force 4 – Edge of Reality: It’s still coming. I know the series has a loyal base, and I want to close it out right. I’m weighing whether to chip away at it during weekends or wait until Miner’s Quest 2 is locked in. But in good news, Bleeding Edge (EDGE Force 1) has just been added to Spotify Premium. So if you have that, you can go listen!
- Dead End / Heavy Metal: Still alive! But on the bench until I’m back to full strength. I’ve been thinking about this book more and more, and really want to finish it.
I hate slowing down. I hate disappointing anyone. But I also know that writing comes from a place of creative energy. And for a while there, I had none. That’s starting to change, and your support here, month after month, has been a massive part of that. So thank you. Genuinely.
If you’re still reading, you’re one of the reasons I keep pushing forward.
Thanks for sticking with me. The stories are still coming, just a little slower than usual while I rebuild. August is going to be a turning point. I can feel it.
Much love,
Matt
